Heavy
« on: April 01, 2009, 01:47:11 pm »
I just gave him a try for the first time last weekend and I kind of like it... I was playing on the PoE server at a LAN party and was dominating everyone with him, due to PoE's lack of Drake, Smitty, band-aid, or bladeofwar...

Anyway, 4 hours of Heavy gameplay and a recently unlocked sandvich leads me to think he's pretty cool... What do you guize think?

Good in the right hands, I only have 5ish hours on him, compared to.. http://steamcommunity.com/id/jdrake/stats/TF2
 (ignoring pyrostats)

When I do play him I do pretty well, I prefer natascha personally, although I think in the righthands sascha is better. Overall though heavy just doesnt suit my playstyle, unless we have a good forward teleporter!

Someone who finally understands!!!!

<3 cheesomelett

Which will bring me to a random story of when i was younger... Me and a friend were driving down to GA and stopped at this denny's near a truck stop at like 2am for some grub. Our server gets to our table... and its this 3-400 pound black woman. Her ass is literally as wide as our booth and lucky for us, she served the table across from us and god was she happy to bend over to grab glasses for refills. The kicker you ask? Her name was Omelette. no fucking lie. Needless to say, we didn't order breakfast... eggs seemed to lose their appeal for some reason.

Heavy is a good class for those who like the Mouse 1 aspect of Pyro, minus the W aspect. That being said, when paired with a competent Medic, I can throw down some Socialism with the fatman.

I personally think that the name book for African-Americans heavily favors the shwah sound.

I like him. His limitations make him quite the thinking man's class.

A good while after posting that original thing, I have now unlocked all weapons for the heavy and have played many many more hours of him. I've found that very little of the heavy's gameplay is actual skill, except for maybe trying to take down a scout jumping on your head. The huge thing that separates the good heavys from the bad heavys is knowing where to be, knowing when to retreat, thinking enough to catch people in choke points, angling yourself around corners so that you can kill them easier... so on and so forth...

I would completely agree that he be a thinking man's class, as even the most skilled heavy is only moderately better than a noob if he doesn't think out his actions and position himself properly... The same obviously goes for all classes, but I think more so for the heavy due to his ridiculous firepower and slow movement.

When I have a good medic that can time ubers/kritz well I can absolutely piss death as heavy weapons guy. I think the sandwich is a gimmick outside of arena play because the shotgun is so useful. I'd say I use it nearly as much as the minigun. Because of the heavies massive health you only have to semi-dodge making it easy to shotgun down soldiers and other things that try to snap shoot you around corners.

The other thing that helps a lot is spin-jumping around corners so you don't have to slow-boat around them and get owned by splash.

You also need to prioritize on classes when you come into a room that is loaded down. Always go for a heavy first because if he starts hitting you first, he has the damage advantage and you will not beat him. Then I go for pyro's because they piss me off. Then demomen because of sticky spam at your face. Unless a soldier is really good you usually don't have to worry about them because their limited clip size cannot overwhelm your health with any kind of speed and everything else is just fodder.

If Virally wasnt a nub he'd post his l33t strats here. Unless there is a medic to focus on if I get into a group of people (and one isnt a heavy) i normally just aim for closest then go further back... simply on the basis I think more rounds will hit the closer target killing him quicker, allowing me time to arrange my next attack!

I definitely agree, but I think the sandwich is a must unless you have a butt buddy medic. Heavys are too slow to get health packs before the coked up scouts take em all.

I don't have any leet strats too much outside of what anyone here has mentioned. Just so many hours more my target priority and situational reactions sharpen a bit, as well as my tracking, which is much harder than anyone gives credit for in my opinion.

Weegee is a surprisingly good heavy, me and him own it up with kritz we would have way more kills without FaN and Backburner pyros killing me all the time.

Yeah, the main reason I was playing heavy that night was because I got the shortbus helmet >_>  Especially on pimpline, we just build up a kritz, sneak in through the alternate route and let 'er rip. One time got behind like 3 medics a soldier a heavy and a sniper, kritz'd all of them, then proceeded to spawn camp them for the rest of the match. Good times.

Pipeline's a fun map, I like to build a sentry on the other team's sniper balcony on the first two stages outside of their spawn  :)

Although a Kritzed Heavy would be easier to get there if the enemy is actually paying attention.
