Last hits and denies

Are there any protips to get good at these, or is it just all practice?

It's all practice, understanding your attack speed and damage, nailing it at just the right time so that the opponent cant, etc

Yeah practice is key, I find pebbles is easy to last hit with as his attack damage is pretty good early game.  Also heroes who have ranged attacks are easier, like engineer as he has a great attack speed to steal those last hits/ denies.

Yeah, if your having trouble with the timing start with heroes like deadwood/pebbles who have huge base damage.  Also buying a logger's hatchet helps.

You'll develop a sense of the amount of time it takes for each hero's attack animation to make contact, and how much damage they do the more you keep playing. You just have to play consistently.

I've found that the ingame tutorial is actually pretty well done.
