Also steam is DRM.

Which I have no problem with, it doesn't fuck you for purchasing the product. I'm talking about Ubisofts new DRM, requiring internet connection 100% of the time

I know steam is DRM. I've never been against DRM unless it limits what you can do with what you've purchased. Steam is the ultimate degree of freedom when it comes to DRM. They do it right, so I don't mind it.

THIS.

Any game I have to eventually pirate just to keep playing, imma just pirate to begin with....

Really? I could add up the hundreds of dollars I've paid just so you low-lifes can keep playing TF2 and talking on the forums/vent if you'd like... I probably pay 20 on every dollar donated. I also barely pirate any games, it's only when they have insane DRM, the two most recent games I've pirated were Spore and Assassin's Creed 2... I can't even remember what came before that...

Piracy is a last resort, not a method of expanding my game collection.

I believe we already had the EA discussion, and I believe my position was extremely clear on the matter. I don't think we need to open it up again.

That doesn't stop Sims 3 from being a fun game to play, it just stops it from being a game you should pay money for. These is a massive difference between the two. Welcome to the concept of pirating, the rest of us reached this point 6 or 7 years ago

Anyways getting back on topic I'm fairly sure this game will be unimpressive.

Or you could just not pirate the game and not contribute to piracy numbers which then encourage publishers to use even more DRM on their games!

The millisecond you pirate a game you lose all credibility to complain about DRM.

Oh, and this game requires a constant internet connection to the servers and online authentication...in other words its pretty much impossible to pirate unless you run a hacked server, and then you'll basically be playing a multiplayer only game by yourself.

It's been cracked, but Assassin's Creed is actually a single player game...

Huh, I just kind of assumed he was talking about the other game... Why would anyone pirate an MMO? Is FuLLBLeeD on crack?

I think Fullbleed misinterpreted you.

Here's how I feel about DRM (and I'm pretty sure Chris feels the same)- DRM is fine, until it punishes you or hinders your enjoyment of the product more than pirating it would. I will not buy a game in which DRM makes it more annoying to use than a torrent. In addition, if there is any chance that I'm going to lose the product I purchased because a change in technology (see: DRM protected Itunes libraries, etc.), I'm going to be labeled as a criminal for altering the product to get it back. Therefore, fuck that shit I'm just gonna pirate it.

However, DRM that's not a stick in my ass all the time is fine, and I buy a large amount of games on steam, which happens to be DRM that doesnt fuck me.

tldr- DRM that impedes my ability to use a game will result in me pirating the game instead.

I totally agree that obtrusive DRM is evil and all, but the problem is pirating the games won't solve anything.  Publishers tend to just think they need better DRM.  None of these games are so great that you MUST play them.

I don't think anyone is trying to 'solve' anything by pirating games.  Its that noone wants to deal with the obtrusive DRM, so pirating the game skips this problem.  I really think game producers are smart enogh to realize that the DRM's are hurting their business, and that they should reanalize the anti-piracting ideas.

If they're not smart enough to figure it out they're probably doomed to fail anyway...

I have my DRM morals, developers who makes games that break those morals can suck my dick.

What I'm saying is that you don't have to Buy/Pirate/Play these games there are plenty of good games without bad DRM.

However re-reading the thread I realize you guys are most likely just using DRM as a justification for pirating.

I used to pirate a lot more, now I only pirate games with DRM... So, I got no complaints against DRM, it just means more free games for me.

Assassin's Creed 2 is currently downloading...

I use Steam, I love steam. Steam has awesome DRM, it's great.

Assassin's Creed 2 is not playable unless pirated.

Terrible logic is my pet peeve, so I'm going to step out of this thread before I have an aneurysm.
