As the Fire Burns is a unique game of superheroes, villains and the in between. It is a new type of forum game that will blend miniatures, Google Maps and Google Wave to allow players to engage in a strategic game of comic book style battles. Players can defend areas of the fictional alternate world Boston, or burn it up in a crime wave.
Internet based sessionless RPG game with a really cool GM. It's run via Google Wave and Google Maps, it's actually really awesome. If you want to try it out let me know and I'll add you to the main wave (if you don't have a Google Wave invite I can get you one of those too)... It's fucking awesome... Do et!

Seriously though, it's really cool. Come play. There are already several player controlled villains and heroes in the world now...

The super powers are vast and diverse, you can make some really awesome builds. Come play!

Invited to google wave, once you accept i'll add you to the As The Fire Burns wave.... Google Wave takes some getting used to, but it's nice once you're over the learning curve....

Also, the game is still getting started, you wont be behind if you join now! So far there's only 1 character that's actually 100% done (mine :D)

Invited. I'll add you to the ATFB wave once you join Google Wave... You should actually play as opposed to everyone else here who didn't :P

This game is hysterically fun, holy crap, I'm loving every second of it and the game is still so early in it's development... Very few player characters have even met one another yet... I've been harassing a super hero a whole bunch, it's wicked fun :D

Added to the main wave.

Here's a teaser to get more of you to play.... This is all the newspaper entries so far in the game...

Some of these are caused by me, most aren't :P

Week of March 15th, 2010
  • Graffiti was reported by residents on India St. The graffiti is strange and features designs that are identifiable as "aquatic fauna" in nature. An expert on ancient marine life stated that the drawings are accurate on some ancient animals but that "some of the animals look fictional to me." The extensive graffiti is suspected of being a viral ad campaign, and the owner of the building is planning on having it removed.
  • The criminal lunatic known as "Ergot" was apprehended recently after poisoning a high school and causing the students and faculty to become delusional and maniacally destructive. Ergot, a repeat offender, is currently being reviewed to go to Hangman Incarceration Facility where he will be put into solitary confinement.
  • An explosion occurred at the Institute of Contemporary Art on 3-15-10. 48 hours response: Closes on 3-17-10.
  • The strange fish grafitti appears again, only this time in downtown Cambridge. The grafitti is a crude facsimile of the original, and is done in a different kind of paint that was reported as "clumpy." Close to noon, the business owner that the owns the building where the graffiti appears tried to wash it off somewhat, and a chemical reaction occurred resulting in a bombing. 24 hours response: Closes on 3-18-10.
  • The superhero known as "A.E.G.I.S." reported to the scene of the Institute of Contemporary Art and helped save four people trapped beneath the fire and rubble. A little known member of the League of Defense, AEGIS is a being clad in an advanced suit of technological armor. He assisted the police and firemen in their efforts to save others, and Lieutenant Drecker appeared in an interview afterwards to thank AEGIS directly.
  • At around 3:30 AM on the night of March 16th, a man was seen walking the bike path matching the description of a local MIT cryo researcher named Tomas Luftwig. He disappeared along the path, though a hand gun was found in a bush nearby to the bike path.
  • A local club and restaurant friendly to 'anyone more than human,' called "Midnight" in downtown Cambridge is mentioned in an arts and food review as a neutral place for anyone to gather. The reviewer, a retired and reformed villain named "The Chef" claims that if he were younger he would have loved to dine there while throwing insults across the room at his costumed rivals. The place is run by a mysterious man named Samael, and protected by another equally mysterious man named St. Germaine.
  • At 10:30 AM on March 19th, 2010 a riot breaks out in the courtyard of a county prison. In 15 minutes the riot spreads and a young Latino man punches a hole through the concrete walls and escapes, followed by three others. The news casters begin arriving and a manhunt is opened for those identified as Jesus Salvadoro (the Latino unknown to have super powers), Marcus Ving, Jason Smith, and Theodore Porter. 48 hour response. Event closes March 21, 2010.
  • Medical Area Federal Credit Union reports that a very skilled hacker attempted to break into their network and advises card holders to keep an eye out for suspicious charges on their cards and accounts. The IT department responsible for securing the network says that though the hacker was one of the fastest and most skilled they have seen he or she was unable to penetrate their network successfully.
  • The police department has issued a general safety warning to those in the greater Boston area not to wash off graffiti until further notice.
  • Late during the evening of March 20th, 2010 a fire alarm is pulled at 152 Endicott St. in the North End of Boston. A Lt. Saviro lives in the apartment, and he and his family were awoken by the alarm and rushed outside with others. Savini could hear his dog, Prince, barking inside and ran back to get the dog. He nearly had a heart attack as he passed a strange looking creature running for the basement. Prince was dead, inhalation of toxins, and in strange graffiti something was written, along with a pair of strange ancient looking manacles.
  • The aged superhero known as "The Snake" was the victim of a car bomb where he works at the Rattlesnake Bar and Grill. He stepped out to go home for the night and his car exploded immediately. The Snake, a hearty hero with a sound and regeneration, managed to survive. He hasn't released any information himself, though police are starting to investigate. All that was found for evidence was a single black glove laying near the scene.
  • The super villain known as "Ergot" was transported to the Hangman Incarceration Facility, where he will remain in solitary confinement.
  • The whereabouts of Jesus Salvadoro are still unknown at this point, though two of his other escapees have been caught. Theodore Porter and Salvadoro are the only two remaining escapees, and the city is being combed by all manner of interested individuals. Word on the street is that "The Dragon" is on the lookout for the possibly super powered Jesus.
Week of March 22nd, 2010
  • A man identified as "Francis C. Lewis" a resident of Boston and former convict, was found dead in an alleyway near his home. Someone, identified by a witness, was in a fight with Mr. Lewis on the day he died and was described as a "hulking ugly man with glasses with obvious super strength." Francis was found with a handkerchief on his face and a calling card. Police are investigating and are asking local heroes to help look for the man involved. He matches no known records, though investigators are hoping he will turn up soon.
  • Graffiti again appears in the city of Boston, though this time the nature of it is taunting. Well-done graffiti was found all over Boston, but specifically in Cambridge, with messages targeted at the metallic hero AEGIS. Some depict him in lewd acts, or simply say things that we cannot repeat here. Whoever, or whatever, is taking aim at AEGIS is not afraid to show it.
  • The Blazing Arrow, a member of the League of Defense, responded to the attack on the Snake late last week, by conducting an investigation into the bombing. Though he has not revealed anything to the police, he and Mr. Time (another member of the League) are said to have been seen around the area.

tl;dr: You can do fucking cool shit in this game. Play it.
