I wanted to write a little guide on how to upload files because if you follow this sort of naming scheme, it will make adding your sound in a bit easier. If you do a bit of renaming for us, it will save us some time. Thanks.
Lets say Mr. Ihaveworms wants to upload the sound of a sniper grunting. We all want to hear this sound because it is a glorious sound. Well, when Mr. Ihaveworms did !plist in the server, he saw a tf2 directory and had this magical feeling that it would fit in that category. Mr. Ihaveworms also understood that it is good to minimize that amount to type to play a sound, so he renamed his TF2 Sniper Grunting.mp3 to grunt.mp3. grunt.mp3 still made sense and was a lot shorter in terms of the mp3 name. Now he was ready to upload.
When he went to the upload page, he saw three different forms: Sound Name, Description, and Sound file. For the sound name, he read the little pop up info at the side and saw that this is the name that will show up in game when it is played. So he typed it Sniper Grunt into this field because it made sense and was short. For the description field, he typed in This is the sound that the sniper makes while grunting, it probably should go in /tf2/. He knew to type this because in the info, it said that this would not show up in game. This description form field is handy because it makes approving your sounds easier because we know what the sound actually is.
At this point, Mr. Ihaveworms intelligence was stretched to the limits, but he managed to figure out that the Sound file field is used to upload the actual sound. He was close to the absolute breaking point with saliva coming out of mouth, pooling onto his keyboard. However, with his all his efforts, he managed to read the description and saw that you could only upload .mp3s and they must be under 10 megabytes. After clicking submit, Mr. Ihaveworms passed out and drowned in his own saliva and mucus.
In the end, grunt.mp3 made it into the server and was able to be enjoyed by everyone. I hope this helps you allto help us
