Global Agenda
« on: January 13, 2010, 11:18:47 am »
It's getting compared to Guild Wars, which makes me giddy just thinking about it.  It's a classbased third-person shooter, F2P with option P2P (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1077539 for specifics), with a single-shard, clan vs. clan, territories style system on P2P (that's AB, for other GW players) and an instanced co-op PvE mission system on F2P (GW missions).  There are a few gameplay vids up on youtube, but it's still in beta currently, which you can preorder to get into, although it launches Feb. 1.  Steam forums say the community is good and that the devs are cool people.  Classes are Assault (heavy/soldier), Recon (sniper/spy), Robotics (engineer), and Medic.  You can have 8 characters at any given time, with some customization and leveling up.

Minimum System Requirements

OS: Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista SP1 or Windows 7 (32 or 64 bit)
Processor: 2.4+ GHZ Single Core
RAM: 2 GB (XP), 3GB (Vista, Windows 7)
Video Card: 256mb video ram or better with Shader Model 3.0+ (GeForce 8 series or higher/Radeon HD3000 series or higher).
Hard Drive: 15 GB free space
High bandwidth internet connection (DSL, Cable)

I have at least 4 friends who play this game in beta, including Ho0ber. They seem to like it.

GA = TF2 + Tribes + good coop + territory control + MMO economy and other elements. The comparison to Guild Wars is totally valid, though it doesn't pretend to exist in a physical landscape in the same way Guild Wars does. For instance, you don't need to go out into an instance and fight your way to a quest hub, you just start in one of the domes and queue up for PvE or PvP missions. It's a bit more like an FPS with a level/gear system and economy worked into a 3d lobby. While that may ruin the potential for immersion, it does make it so the game has very little downtime and essentially no grind. You just play the freaking game.

It's a brilliantly put together game. It has some balance issues, and they're still slowly trudging through conquest (territory control / agency vs. agency) bugs, but the game runs REALLY well otherwise, and is a complete blast.

You guys should organize some 4-packs ASAP. It's only like $33.74 per person if you preorder a 4-pack.

Recon?  I saw a post on the Steam forums raging about how many people are playing Recon like it's a speedy version of Assault (i.e. like it was scout).  So, apparently, not many actual spies or snipers yet.

Then that post was full of shit!

Recons are either "LOLOL YOUR BEACON IS DEAD AND SO R U! SNIPURS ROCK!"

or they're like "LOOK, I CAN INVISIBLE AND THEN SWORD! CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP CHOP!"

Either you see a recon because he's destroying your deployables with his sword, or chopping you in the back, or shooting you from 20 miles away (and you have good vision).

I read this thread and it sounded pretty cool...
but then I saw this video and have to say that the game looks like absolute garbage.
