Buying New Parts
« on: August 28, 2009, 09:55:23 am »
Who's a huge hardware nerd?

I want these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103696
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231193

I've got an HD 4870 just dying to have a good system to work with. Old AM2 shit needs to go, so I'm going to blow $350 on those three goodies.

Will I have any problems?

Are you going to be using a video card from your old system?

Thanks.

All I've got to do is wait for my last paycheck from work to come in the mail (~$230), then I get the fun of trying to put all that together.

My small screwdriver has a bunch of res on it from cleaning my pieces out with it. =\

I also want to point out that I believe that the board is designed mostly for single graphics cards if you have any desire to go crossfire in the future. That gray 16x slot only runs electronically at 4x. The 4x would probably limit your multi GPU performance.

So don't run my GPU in the gray plastic slot?

EDIT: Oh, I don't do crossfire/SLi/whatever it's called. I've read some stuff about that, and know a couple friends who tried it. Basically your max frames go up, but you get a lot less consistency because basically each frame is alternated between the cards (if I read right).

Correct. Put it in the blue one closer to the CPU socket.

I think my PSU is 650 or 750W, I'm wondering if I shouldn't drop another $20 and get the 3.2 ghz 125W PSU. I think my PSU should be able to handle that...

Yeah your PSU can handle that. Black edition will also allow you some more overclocking room if you are interested in that.

unlocked multiplier ftw!

It sucks that only the c2e's have unlocked multipliers... I could only imagine how hard I could push my Q6600 if I could push the multiplier above 9......

That is the one I've been using for the past month and I love it.

Most of the core i7 line have unlocked multiplers. Even the none extreme ones.

Okay, so I just need to get my dad to buy the rest of my bag from me for $200, which he's probably going to do. I've got a couple hundred+ coming from Super America still, and have like 460 currently. So I'll still have like 500 bucks after buying everything too.

Hmm... Should I press buy now? D:

I got roughly $170 from my mom as a belated birthday present, so I'm buying them NAO.

Can't fucking wait.
