Class limits and restrictions on the server
« on: August 19, 2009, 07:48:32 am »
first off, I don't fully understand what the limits are and when they are in place.

secondly, could we please bann, or only limit one of a specific class to a specific map?

I mean, 2fort would work fine if we had no engis, same with hydro.

As for bball, for example, remove the limit on soldiers, demomen, and scouts, but bann other classes.

And finally, could we have a melee only restriction that admins can initiate for some server fun nights? melee only and specific class only.

I've wanted to screw around for some time now on the shens server.

Thanks.
I think I can make it.

The class limits just restricts certain people from picking certain classes depending on that player's rank on Shens.
We added this most likely because of random noob pubbers who would, for example, all go Engie at a desperate attempt to win a match.
So, it affects everyone over rank 50, I think.
Anyone under that can join a class even if its maximum number allowed is full.
(I'd have to look for an old thread to tell you the limit to each class.)
When that happens, and if one of the players using the class you just picked is ranked 50+, they are forced to choose another class to make room for you.

Oh, and this is in effect at all times.

As for the class/map specifics, you can talk to Chris about that, he's the plug-in guy.
Btw, I don't think we even have 2fort on our list.

The melee only idea sounds good, too.

And while we're on topic of suggestions...
Chris, can you add a command that sets the gravity to normal on the Maggotry config?
I started a gravity vote earlier today through the server commands and couldn't set it to normal.
I had to ask Bobby to restart the server for me.
The Maggotry config sets Friendly Fire off though, fyi. I started a vote for that too earlier.

EDiT:
I found the old thread, but I don't know if Chris based off the actual limits on these numbers, but it's 2 maximum on every class.

The class limits don't affect anyone under the rank of 100, while it used to be 50. But we decided that 100 was a bit more realistic.

Did you remember to feed your gigapet as well? Pokemon...seriously? I'm not that old but... get off my lawn

Class limit of 2 on every class, if your rank is 100 or better you have immunity to this, but are still counted. This means that if there are 2 engies, and you go engy due to immunity, it will actually kick one of them off of engy (unless they're both immune also)

Map based restrictions is a good idea, and I'm pretty sure that's implementable. I'll look into that.

I'll add the gravity fix when I get to work, good call.

I'll see if there are any premade plugins for melee only, otherwise I gotta figure out how to implement that.

and while were on that topic, can I make another suggestion:

a little bit more power to the SHENS players.

for example, let us do melee only votes or votekick (not votebann), or even low gravity votes that reset after every map. Back then when we had the crits vote, that was fun too.

I alwyas hate seeing the "you do not have access to this command" pop up, when I'm just trying to have some fun and someone is ruining it.

maybe enable these things only for ranks 100 and lower, 50 or lower, or shens group memebers?

other than that, I would love to see class restrictions on maps implemented. I love 2fort and hydro, just not with engis...
I think I can make it.

I agree, votekick and votemute should be in. I sort of dismissed them back in the day when I wasn't running the server.

Imma do a sourcemod update, which should fix the menus, and then I'll figure out how to do the votes and map based configs. I know it's possible.

I should be able to get it all done by tonight... I also have a lot of work to do so......

PS: Thank you a lot for the input, it keeps the server alive. Seriously.

Yeah I was always asking for votekick/votemute but no one listen to me... on that kind of thing.

Its not often either votekick or votemute abilities are actually needed, but I would suggest giving them only to selected members, not to people rank x and below. That just sounds like a bad idea.

Indeed.

But the mute options are needed sometimes when I talk too much... I'm still working on it, but it's  bad habit.

Also, if it's possible, make the mute only last a few minutes, maybe half an hour.

votekicks should also last 2 or 3 minutes, nothng too much. Both of these new features should only be warnings.
I think I can make it.

On second thought, if someone is kicked 5 times, he is banned for a day, hows that?

or if someone is muted 3 times, he is muted for a day.
I think I can make it.
