The optimum build
« on: August 17, 2009, 11:20:27 pm »
As of today, the only unlockables are:

spy:
Ambassador
Cloak and Dagger
Dead ringer

Pyro:
Backburner
Flare gun
Axetinguisher

Sniper:
Huntsman
Jarate
Razorback

Scout:
Force of Nature
Bonk!
Sandman

Medic:
Blutsauger
Kritzkrieg
The Ubersaw

Heavy:
Natasha (spelling?)
Sandvich
Killing Gloves of Boxing

There are also the normal weapons to choose from.

What is the best build for any player on any class?

The main arguments are:
flare gun vs. shotgun (I think flare gun, but many others say shotgun because of pyro vs. pyro)
backburner vs. flame thrower (airblast or crits?)

C&D or Dead Ringer or normal cloak
Ambassador or revolver (depends on accuracy?)

Kritzkrieg or normal medigun (I know both are good for different situations, but overall which is better?)

FaN or scattergun (more shots before reload or knockback?)

tell me your opinion and Discuss!
I think I can make it.

flare gun vs. shotgun
Depends a lot on your playing style, but if you can aim flare, it's usually better because of the axt
backburner vs. flame thrower
LOL
C&D or Dead Ringer or normal cloak
normal for real play, the others for lulz
Ambassador or revolver (depends on accuracy?)
Ambassador ftw! It's way more fun! I dunno what's really better though :P
Kritzkrieg or normal medigun
depends a lot on the situation, I usually like playing kritz on pubs and medigun in matches.
FaN or scattergun (more shots before reload or knockback?)
FaN is so much fun!! I hate scout though.

flare gun vs. shotgun
Depends on your playing style (ambush pyro vs support pyro), and very greatly on the map you're playing. Shotgun can be worth it just for sheer DPS when people are trying to run away, but its not very useful outside of medium range. There is no wrong choice here, but getting better at aiming with the flaregun is always a good thing.
backburner vs. flame thrower
Once again, situational. The Backburner is really only useful on key parts of certain maps, (the beginning area of Badwater, for example.) but isn't nearly as useless as most people will make it out to be. All in all, the flamethrower is still always going to be a better choice. The ability to reflect projectiles is absolutely lethal when used correctly, and the added ability to extinguish teammates just makes it all the more worthwhile. Theres nothing more painfull than watching a teammate burn to death in front of you because you choose the BB :\
C&D or Dead Ringer or normal cloak
All situational. In the hands of a good spy, the Dead Ringer is amazing, especially since the ammo buff. (minus the horrible decloaking noise.) I would still give it to the normal cloak though.
Ambassador or revolver (depends on accuracy?)
The Ambassador is TECHNICALLY still a superior weapon, as it can headshot-bodyshot any 125 hp class. Although, the revolver is still a bit more versatile, as most spys dont have that kind of pinpoint accuracy.
Kritzkrieg or normal medigun
They're balanced enough to were you wouldn't be able to say one is better than the other. Although, a Kritz cant save a dying medic, or patient, which is why I normally choose the medigun. One could argue that the shorter charge up time of the kritz is worth it, but given a good medic, Ubers don't take horribly long to charge to begin with. A solider who is able to move and position himself without worry, and therefore make better shots, is more lethal than a solider with crit rockets
FaN or scattergun (more shots before reload or knockback?)
Six shots are better than two. Scattergun is currently the strongest close range weapon in the game, given that it can dish out upwards of 600 damage without reloading. The FaN begins to fall behind in DPS after about 2~3 seconds. Put in the hands of someone who can aim, (I'm looking at you, Jeed.) its definitely a better weapon.

I'm just asking your opinion, I already have my own base build.

I use the dead ringer most often, which is contrary to what you two say.

And as for the other unlocks which seem obvious to use, I've seen people who don't use them. For example, medics with bone saw, pyros with normal axe, heck, even medics with normal srynge gun, just for the crits.

But yes, I mostly agree with you.

The big debate of the builds is usually flare gun vs shot gun and BB vs. normal flamethrower.

Everything else is somewhat obvious.
I think I can make it.

I've never really cared wh ether I use Natasha or not.

The slowing effect barely works, and the damage reduction seems negligable.
I think I can make it.

I'll remember to use it as much as I can when you are on the server.

Anyways, when playing against heavy, all classes must sneak.

the heavy is quite weak actually because he is so slow it's hard for him to dodge rockets and grenades.

3 grenades, 3(?) stickies, or 3-4 rockets can kill a fully healed heavy. If he has a medic, give up, because he has probably caught on to you and you have a low chance of survival unless you are at  long range.
I think I can make it.
