I'm more excited about it after listening to people who have played it, than when it was first announced.

I give it a meh. This is unlike valve to reskin a game and ship it out with a $50 price tag.

Well, Valve does have EA leaning on them, too. And we all know EA's policy on pushing out a re-skinned game annually for the same price as the last one.

How dare they make a sequel to a successful game that came out last year!?  >:(
Making a serious improvements to an already great game and wanting to get paid for it shouldn't make your company look corrupt. Think about how much stuff Valve has been giving us over here in TF2 land and we only paid like $20 dollars for this game.
From what I hear L4D2 (worst title they could have come up with) has some big improvements (New melee combat, Goddamn chainsaws, AI director 2.0) and maybe like EVERY COMPANY ON THE FUCKING PLANET Valve wants to get paid for their products.
I'm pretty sure this will have more significant changes in it than the changes made in any Activision sequel in the past 3 years.

It has nothing to do with EA. All EA does is publish for valve they don't do any funding.

It's true, EA has nothing to do with it. From what I've read, there were a lot of things that they wanted to change, but the existing engine was too limiting and wouldn't allow such changes. They could have spent years slowly updating the engine to get these new features in (which I'm sure we'll hear more and more new features as time goes) instead they decided to just try again. A representative from Valve was quoted saying "Just trust us a little", personally I think they're deserving of that trust, so I'm not going to judge until there's something to judge.

We'll see, I guess :)

It wouldn't be Valve if there wasn't rage to accompany anything they do. Some people don't like change, and personally, I could care less about L4D2. (I don't mind change, just don't care for another game they are eventually going to break) L4D was great until they started listening to the faggots that sucked at the game and made it more homosexual to suit them. I can't stand playing it anymore, because I still remember how it used to be. That's why I play Killing Floor. :D

As for EA, I know that they only do publishing for Valve, but that doesn't mean that they haven't had conversations about corporate strategy before. :P

And RAGE Kenkaze? We were talking about EA, not Activision. I still haven't forgiven them for making ET for the Atari 2600.

so about the game:

AI director will be able to change the path survivors take.
some changes to the "crescendo events" such as you will set off an alarm and you have to run to a switch to turn it off.
on day maps witches will wander around
5 campaigns that will follow a story playable in all modes from the start, including a new mode they haven't detailed yet.

Joined. I agree with pretty much everything that group is talking about. And also what I posted earlier. I believe in a L4D experience that I can enjoy once again, and not have to pay another $50 bucks for. (although, I only paid $20 for mine, Black Friday sale on Amazon)

I would be shocked if Valve didn't give a wicked deal to people who already own L4D... It would be very Valve of them to give such a deal.

Oh now that there's a boycott there's no way they're going to make a game that's going to sell millions of copies.

I put in my couple of words of Activision hate because of all the EA hate. I don't like EA but they're 1000 times better than Activision.

Personally I'm hoping that this will just be part of the orangebox 2.  This fall is 2 years since episode 2 came out.

Valve: Hey gang, we're releasing this amazing new FPS called Left 4 Dead!

Gamers: Looks sweet! Uh, but what's with the lack of content. This is it?

Valve: Oh, don't worry. Like we did with Team Fortress 2, we'll continue to update the game with new maps, weapons, characters, achievements, and so on. Oh, and there's also going to be modding tools shortly after launch, so the community can create a bunch of fun campaigns for everybody to enjoy.

Gamers: Well, if that's the case sign me up. You guys have a history of adding and updating to your games for years, so we trust you.

--Game Launches--

Gamers: Wow, great game, but now I'm bored. When are the updates and modding tools coming out Valve?

Valve: Soon.

--2 Months Pass--

Gamers: Uh, Valve, you there?

--4 Months Pass--

Valve: Hey, remember those two campaigns that you couldn't play before in Versus? Now you can! Also, we have a new mode. Basically, we just take a few rooms from existing campaigns and make you fight zombies until you die 30 seconds later. Oh, and modding tools are still not done.

Gamers: Cool, but we were expecting new stuff, not recycling stuff that's already in the game and giving us the ability to play those two campaigns which we were supposed to at launch.

Valve: We still have a lot planned for Left 4 Dead!

---2 Months Pass--

Valve: Hey everybody, Left 4 Dead 2 is coming out. It's got new campaigns, new characters, and new weapons! How innovative is that! The best part is that it's going to be full price!

Gamers: What the hell! You promised us all this new content for Left 4 Dead, which is the entire reason I even bougth that game when it has so little content. Now you're putting out a sequel that could easily be DLC content.

Valve: Yeah, we kinda were planning on giving you guys all this via free updates, but we decided it was better to ignore our promises to our fans and make money off of you dumb people.

Tools: Errr...new game!? Hell yeah! I'd better start saving my birthday money.

Everbody Else: Screw you Valve. We payed full price for a game that had almost no content just because you promised us you'd add to it, but instead of delivering on your promises of updating the game you're expecting people to pay for it while keeping existing L4D players hanging.

Valve: It doesn't matter. Look at the 1up.com site. There's a ton of stupid people who don't mind paying for something that was supposed to be free. Sorry, but dumb people now make us money.

average_gamer: Exactly. Me wants shiney game. Boycotters dumb. Who care if dis game only DLC.

Valve's announcement that  Left 4 Dead 2 would be released only a year after the first game has generated a great deal of controversy among fans of the game. There are concerns that Left 4 Dead will not get any additional content, the community will be divided, and that the quick development cycle won't do justice to the sequel. Now, Valve devs and execs are going out of their way to address those concerns. Left 4 Dead project lead Chet Faliszek said, "It just became very clear that this was a cohesive, singular statement we wanted to make, not a more slow update thing... too much stuff was tied together with too many other things." Developer Tom Leonard was quick to point out that work wouldn't cease for the first game: "We are doing updates across the summer, adding new matchmaking features, and new features to facilitate user maps after the SDK is out. ... Additionally, those maps can be transported into Left 4 Dead 2." Doug Lombardi said simply, "Trust us a little bit," explaining that Gabe Newell is "always talking about providing entertainment as a service — it's not about making a game any more."

I wont judge until more details appear. I think we owe it to Valve to give em a little trust.

Also, Chet Faliszek runs PoE... Wicked funny that he's lead of the L4D team...

>_>
So far the only thing I've gleaned from Valve is that they listen too much to the whiny bastard children who play their games (fucking parents that buy them the M rated games sicken me, but that's another story/debate for another time. In fact, I'm going to make a poll.) and break everything that was once good. I don't own a Valve (multiplayer) game that isn't borked.

Allow me to help you Kenkaze.

I guess I could trust them a bit, but I will not trust them, for I am still disgruntled about the random drops in Team Fortress 2.
I've learned how to decipher Supernaut's ungodly slamming of his head against his keyboard.
